How to Customize Printing Services for Trifold Postcards
Choose a size that showcases the informative text or high-resolution images on your trifold postcard.
Your trifold postcard size will depend on your overall design direction. A visually heavy layout that focuses on the image will need the bigger sizes of
18” x 9”, 18” x 10.5”, or 16” x 8.5”. You can also balance chunks of text with images in these large sizes.
The smaller sizes of
6” x 12” and
6” x 12.75” offer compact space for lists, summaries, or succinct catalogs.
Print pastel or neutral colors in matte, or highlight large and bright images in a glossy finish.
Add a protective coating to bring out the details of your text and images.
Matte makes lists and paragraphs more readable. It has no glare and complements light, pastel, and neutral hues.
Gloss offers a vibrant shine and bright finish to bold colors. Perfect for image-heavy trifold postcard designs.

How to Send Trifold Postcards Through Direct Mail
Select double or triple tabbing under “Advanced Options.”
To qualify for direct mail, trifold postcards need to be sealed with white, round wafer seals. You can add double or triple tabbing in our online calculator to do so.
Once you add this, you can check the “Mailing Services” option at the bottom of the calculator.

Make sure your trifold postcard complies with these requirements:
- Final fold at the bottom
- Double or triple tabbing to seal the postcard.
- Height range of 3.5” to 6”
- Width range of 5” to 10.5”
- Printed on material with a minimum thickness of 70 lb. paper stock. Our 10 pt. and 14 pt. cardstock choices are thicker than 70 lb. paper

Trifold Postcards FAQs
How much space is needed for the address on a postcard?
The address is printed at the top half of the postcard, at about 3” from the right-hand area. Be sure to leave some space below the address for any additional elements on the postcard.
Can I mail a trifold postcard without an envelope
No, but you can mail the postcard as a folded self-mailer. The requirements for folded self-mailers are listed above. To qualify for PrintPlace’s mailing services, go to Tabbing and select double or triple tabbing under “Advanced Options.” The “Mailing Services” checkbox becomes clickable upon making this selection.
What is the minimum size for direct mail postcards?
The postcard’s flat height should be at least 3.5” and the width at a minimum of 5”.
Does envelope size affect postage?
Postcards can be mailed without an envelope. But if your postcard does not fulfill the first-mail postcard requirements, any piece larger than the 4.25” high x 6” long x 0.016” thick maximum will include the large envelope postage prices. For more information, check out the
